Tim Griffin is a dedicated oboe and English horn player known for his expressive artistry and versatility across orchestral, chamber, and theatrical settings. He began his oboe and English horn journey at Troy University in Troy, AL, where he developed a deep passion for the oboe and English horn while playing in the Chamber Winds and Symphony Band ensembles.
Tim's principal private teachers include Caterina Bristol, Alabama State University and James Sullivan, Principal Oboe, Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he has had the privilege of working with Philip Ross, St. Louis Orchestra, Russ DeLuna, San Francisco Symphony, and Linda Strommen, Indiana University while attending the Southern Oboe Intensive in Birmingham, Alabama.
Tim has performed in both orchestral and theatrical productions. Most recently, he performed Haydn’s The Creation at Indian Springs School (November 2024) and The Secret Garden (March 2025). He was also a member of the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, serving as second oboe and English horn (2005 to 2012). His work in theatrical productions includes performances in A Christmas Carol The Musical (2008), Peter Pan (2007), Beauty and the Beast (2006), and Man of La Mancha (2006) at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery, Alabama.
In addition to his performance career, Tim is passionate about music education and has taught at Scrollworks Music School in Birmingham, AL, helping to inspire and mentor the next generation of musicians.
